Marieta Akalski

Recently we shot a series of portraits for Gripped Magazine of Canadian National Climbing Team member and RMT, Marieta Akalski. She was a great subject and we finished the day with a selection of images we were both happy with.

We shot these in studio with a Canon 5D MK3, Canon 85mm f/1.2 L. For lights we used a Profoto 1200 Acute through a 3ft Chimera Octobox.

This was a great day of shooting. Take a look at some of our favorite images!

We were recently contracted by Chartwell Retirement Residences to photograph their Georgian Traditions location in Collingwood, ON. After a very cold day we produced a set of images which we and the client were very happy with.

Meowingtons Cat Themed Apparel

We were recently contracted by Meowingtons Cat Themed Apparel to shoot some of their new cat costumes for their website and catalogue. Who could say no to an afternoon of playing with cats?

As our key source we used a single 2400w Speedotron head through an 8'x8' frame with light grid cloth and a 40 degree light tools grid.  This gave a huge soft source allowing the cats to roam around a fair bit while staying in the light.

Moyer's Christmas Caramel Apples

Best of 2014

IKEA's Most Helpful Button in the World

This summer we spent some time documenting IKEA's tour of experiential marketing activations at different locations around Toronto. This booth was part of their Most Helpful Button in the World Campaign.  Consumers were invited to come up and push the button and were rewarded with an IKEA branded tape measure and a 2014 catalogue. Our main focus was to capture consumer interactions with the brand ambassadors as well as the booth. We used a variety of focal lengths to show various aspects of the activation including how the booth fit into the different settings and  detail shots of the branding and crowd reactions.  After four days of shooting we walked away with some great shots, check out some of our favourites.

Interiors by Alexandra Naranjo

Last week we had the pleasure of working with interior designer Alexandra Naranjo to document a recently finished space of hers at the Ritz Carlton. We had a fairly limited amount of time inside so we worked quickly to create both composite images of the spaces as well as detail shots of individual elements within each space.

For this shoot we used Canon's 5D MK3 locked off on a newly acquired Vanguard Auctus Plus 283CT tripod (with which we've very impressed) tethered to Capture One Pro. This allowed us to control the camera without having to worry about accidentally bumping it while shooting the exposures for the composite images.

For lensing we enlisted Canon's incredibly sharp perspective controlled lenses (17mm f/4, 24mm f/3.5 ||, and 45mm f/2.8) to allow for seamless stitching of exposures. For the detail shots we opted to work handheld to fit our time constraints and mainly used the Canon 85mm f/1.2 and 100mm f/2.8.

We had a lot of fun with this shoot and are looking forward to the next one. Check out some of our favourite images!

Jenn & Waylon's Parry Sound Wedding

Last weekend we had the pleasure of photographing Jenn and Waylon's wedding up in Parry Sound, ON. Parry Sound is particularly gorgeous this time of year and their wedding took full advantage of the great weather with an intimate outdoor ceremony on the rolling granite domes of Georgian Bay and a fantastic reception afterwards.

We walked away with a little but of sunburn and some images we're quite happy with. Check out some of our favorites!

IFSC Bouldering World Cup : Hamilton

Last weekend we had the chance to cover the IFSC Bouldering World Cup's stop in Hamilton, ON for Gripped Climbing Magazine. Similar to our strategy from last year, we dumped 2400 watts of light on the wall from Speedotron packs and went to town.

Our main objective was to cover the final round of the two day competition.  After an exciting afternoon Akiyo Noguchi of Japan took home the win for the women and Guillaume Glairon Mondet of France for the men.

Loblaws Grand Re-Opening

Last week our client, Mosaic Sales Solutions, asked us to attend the grand re-opening of the Yonge and Lawrence Loblaws to shoot some interiors and document the event. This gorgeous store went through a total renovation while keeping a healthy amount of exposed wood throughout. With the amount of free samples being given out it looked like everyone had a great time.

Joe Rockhead's Interiors

Recently we were asked to shoot a series of interiors for Gripped Climbing Magazine of the popular Toronto climbing gym, Joe Rockhead's. We managed to find some time where the gym wasn't packed with people to get our work done and had a great morning shooting there. We used the typical array of Canon P/C lenses including the 17mm, 24mm, and 45mm.
